Overview

We are seeking to fill the role of Underwriting Manager (Licensed) at our Virginia Beach, VA Campus. The ideal candidate enjoys collaborating with clients, industry partners and internal teams to maximize outcomes for homeowners.

Responsibilities

• Drives the daily operation of the Underwriting/Loss Mitigation department, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures and all applicable government, investor, and client regulations
• Manage transactions for approval or denial to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality within department
• Manage workload issues across teams and propose and implement efficiency initiatives as deemed necessary
• Review and evaluate borrower profile including all income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary report, judgments, bankruptcy documents and appraisals
• Analyze and calculate income documentation such as personal and business income statements; ensure all necessary documentation is requested to support final loan decisions
• Take responsibility for the teams’ accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and completion of duties
• Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures
• Conduct staff meetings to convey operational issues
• Maintain the highest levels of customer service to ensure client/vendor retention by taking direct action on issues and coordinating activities with company personnel and other departments
• Maintain open communication with team members, clients, vendors, other departments, and management
• Review departmental profitability: recommend actions to keep costs and fees within company guidelines
• Identify, promote, and develop employees to team leader and account executive positions
• Ensures the necessary daily/weekly/monthly operational statistics and reports are available for management and staff
• Analyzes trends, variances, and problem situations
• Makes recommendations to improve loss mitigation process and increase efficiency with ongoing review and updates to the Policy and Procedures as necessary
• Assists with problem resolution when issues cannot be resolved and are escalated to the Manager level
• Responsible for department retention and morale

• Responsible for requesting, creating/preparing, updating/revising, reviewing, testing, finalizing/approving, conduct training and maintain the departments policies and procedures
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment where priorities change frequently to meet business needs
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Mortgage Banking, Collections, Loss Mitigation, Bankruptcy and Foreclosure processes
• Requires a minimum of 3-5 current underwriting experience as DE(FHA) and/or VA underwriter.
• Strong experience and knowledge within FHA assumptions
• Must have DE CHUMS# from FHA
• Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience, managing a team in a high volume, fast paced environment
• Knowledge of mortgage loan workout options (i.e. loan modifications, short sale, deed in lieu and foreclosure)
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel to balance staffing strengths with profitability and growth
• Strong ability to manage, organizes, prioritize, delegate, and allocate workload for optimum efficiency
• Strong analytical, reasoning and negotiation abilities and solid administrative skills; well- developed management skills
• Proficient with Microsoft office

Work Conditions 

Able to attend work and be productive during normal business hours and to work early, late or weekend hours as needed for successful job performance. Overtime required as necessary.

 

 

Physical Demands

  • Sitting up to 90% of the time
  • Walking and standing up to 10% of the time
  • Occasional lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
