Responsibilities

  • Independently manages a portfolio of litigation, contested foreclosures and property-related cases including title curative and quiet title actions. Responsible for managing cases to resolution through judgment, trial, settlement or loss mitigation options
  • Handles initial case intake and set up in Legal Tracker. Conducts and finalizes factual research and analysis of legal claims
  • Assigns and manages outside counsel and manages the progression of each assigned case, including the review of dockets, tracking and managing deadlines and the review and analysis of legal documents
  • Reviews outside counsel budget requests and works with clients on obtaining necessary approvals
  • Responds to discovery requests and motions
  • Participates in conference calls and prepares summaries for attorneys, clients, management and business partners to provide updates and case information on assigned portfolio
  • Updates Legal Tracker and reports current information of the status of the litigation, strategy and upcoming critical events and dates
  • Participates in settlement negotiations to bring cases to resolution and minimize company risk and client losses. Drafts settlement agreements and requests settlement checks.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Loss Mitigation, Compliance and Finance.
  • Handles inquiries by responding to emails and instant messages within one business day and handles appropriate document execution and other related tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 10+ years of related experience at a mortgage servicing company managing litigation, contested foreclosures and property-related claims
  • 2+ years of experience using Legal Tracker as part of your daily job function, including experience creating reports
  • Knowledge of mortgage origination and servicing practices, loan documents and loan products such as conventional, ARMs, HELOCs, etc.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations governing residential mortgages (including ECOA, FCRA, TILA, RESPA, and FDCPA) and the ability to apply the requirements to business practices
  • Experience managing cases and claims filed against mortgage servicers, such as contested foreclosures, partitions, eminent domain, mechanics’ liens, quiet title actions, and other disputes asserted by borrowers and third parties under state/federal consumer protection laws
  • Experience interfacing with business units within the company to uncover required information and to achieve desired results, such as with Loss Mitigation, Cashiering, Customer Service, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, Property Preservation and REO.
  • Problem solving, decision-making and strategic thinking ability.
  • Experience overseeing and working with outside counsel law firms and reviewing budgets and invoices and communicating with clients and outside counsel law firms about budgets and legal spend
  • Substantial experience delivering oral presentations to clients and delivering comprehensive written analysis to clients and business partners
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects and effectively meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Excellent time management and organizational skills a must.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
